Aly-khan Merali is the President and Chief Financial Officer of Turnberry. Merali, who joined the company in 2013, directs all capital activities, investments, joint ventures and divestitures relating to Turnberry’s multi-billion-dollar portfolio of retail and hospitality assets. In addition, he oversees the Asset Management, Finance and Treasury, Accounting, Legal, Human Resources and Information Systems divisions of the company. To date, Merali’s transactions on behalf of Turnberry are in excess of $8 billion.
Merali has over 25 years of real estate investing and operations experience. Prior to joining Turnberry, he was an Executive Vice President and Head of Acquisitions for Gencom Group, a Florida-based hotel investment venture with a portfolio of assets that spans North America, Europe and the Caribbean. Prior to that, Merali worked and lived internationally while maintaining leadership and, at times, ownership positions in real estate-based companies in the United Kingdom, Canada and East Africa; property types included industrial and manufacturing, senior living, office, and resort.
Merali holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Simon Fraser University in Canada and a master’s degree with a focus in real estate finance from the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University. While at Cornell, Merali was a Dean’s List student and the Vice President of the Associate Real Estate Chapter. He served as a member of the Cornell Hotel School’s Young Advisory Council, is currently a member of the Cornell Hotel Society Florida Chapter, and an active member of the Miami Chapter of YPO. Merali is significantly involved in various charities Turnberry supports and has held volunteer positions with organizations focused on bettering the economic position of those within the communities he has lived.
