NATIONAL TV SERIES SHOWCASES NASHVILLE’S UNION STATION HOTEL IN HOLIDAY STYLE –
Gospel Music Channel airing multiple specials through Christmas Eve
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (December 20, 2007)—Nashville’s Untion Station Hotel - Autograph Collection is the setting for a host of heavenly voices from now through Christmas Eve as the “Gospel Music Channel’s Christmas at Union Station” televised concert series airs nationally.
The series showcases Natalie Grant, the current Gospel Music Association Female Artist of the Year; three-time Grammy Award winners Jars of Clay; “American Idol” contestants George Huff & Mandisa; and the platinum-selling female trio Trin-i-tee 5:7. Each act has an individual one-hour program, and there is a collective one-hour special titled “The GMC Christmas Celebration.”
Each show has multiple airings. The series practically fills the channel’s Sunday and Monday (Dec. 23 and 24) schedules.
The Gospel Music Channel has more than 22 million subscribers nationwide. GMC is in all of the top 10 markets and 46 of the top 50 markets.
The hotel’s towering lobby—it reaches 65 feet from the marble floor to the eye-catching stained glass ceiling—was the studio for “Christmas at Union Station.”
The lobby originally was the concourse for Union Station when the building opened in 1900 as the showpiece of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad. The massive building became a boutique hotel in 1986 after passenger railroad service had ended in Nashville. A $10 million renovation projected was completed earlier this year.
Twenty angels—artisans’ handiwork from the initial construction—look down on the lobby, although they are different from the angels the “Christmas at Union Station” performers sing about. These angels are “angels of commerce,” each representing a Tennessee manufactured or agricultural product from the turn of the 20th Century.
The Union Station Hotel, a member of Historic Hotels of America, is one of Nashville’s most identifiable buildings. Many visitors consider it part of a Nashville architectural trifecta that consists of the Untion Station Hotel - Autograph Collection, the nearby Ryman Auditorium and the city’s replica of the Parthenon from ancient Athens.
It is owned by Turnberry Associates in Aventura, Fla., and the Nashville-based Corner Partnership.
