In 1967, the Turnberry Group of Companies purchased 785 acres of submerged and undeveloped swamp and marshland facing the Intracoastal Waterway in North Miami-Dade County. During the past 40+ years, the organization has transformed that land into the world-famous Turnberry Isle Miami, Aventura Mall, thousands of residential units and numerous offices.

Now led by Jeffrey Soffer, Turnberry is one of the country's leading real estate development and property management firms. The company's portfolio includes the development of more than $7 billion in commercial and residential property.

Soffer joined Turnberry in 1987, focusing much of his efforts on the residential division. He's created such South Florida landmarks as Turnberry Ocean Colony, Porto Vita, Fontainebleau II and Fontainebleau III, Turnberry Village and more. He also brought his company's "mansions in the sky" concept to Las Vegas, creating the first high-rise condominium community overlooking The Strip. That "gamble" paid off as the $650 million Turnberry Place sold out and launched a new standard for high-rise living in Las Vegas. Soffer also partnered with MGM Mirage to build The Residences at MGM Grand, which includes three sold out and completed 40-story towers on the casino-hotel property.

Other recently completed Soffer residential projects include Turnberry Tower Arlington in suburban Washington D.C. and The Residences at Atlantis, Paradise Island, an oceanfront condominium-hotel tower at the world-renowned Bahamas resort.

Soffer also heads up Turnberry's development and management of shopping malls, hotels and office buildings throughout the country, including Aventura Mall, Turnberry Isle Miami, and Destin Commons.

In addition to his role with Turnberry, Soffer directed the $500 million makeover of his Fontainebleau Miami Beach, which debuted in November 2008 with the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show – broadcast on CBS Television. Famed for architect Morris Lapidus' emblematic curvilinear façade and whimsical interior elements, the 1504-room resort's most distinguishing features now include two new towers; 11 restaurants and lounges, most notably Gotham Steak®, ScarpettaTM and Hakkasan®; three dynamic nightlife venues; a 40,000-square-foot spa; and a dramatic oceanfront pool-scape featuring a free-form, Lapidus-influenced pool.
